New acquisitions to the library

The library's book collection has been enriched with a gift — the book "Actors of a Tragic Fate: The Long Return Home."

The book is dedicated to the life paths and tragic fates of two actor brothers, Lazar Vasylovych Shevchenko (November 6, 1879 – April 7, 1937) and Yona Vasylovych Shevchenko (April 13, 1887 – February 13, 1938). It is not only a biographical study, but also an important attempt to rescue from oblivion the names of artists whose lives were broken by the tragic events of the 20th century.

The publication is based on memoirs, archival documents, and photographs that provide a deeper understanding of the Shevchenko brothers' fate, their creative journey, and the difficult historical circumstances in which they had to live.

We sincerely thank the authors of the publication — Vasyl Halatenko, Nina Kudko, and Andriy Kulikovsky — for their painstaking research work, which has helped preserve the memory of these prominent Ukrainians from the village of Hnedyn (Boryspil district, Kyiv region).

We also express our gratitude to Lazar Shevchenko's granddaughter, Olena Zarytska, for donating a copy of the book to the library!

Special thanks go to everyone who contributed to the preparation and publication of this study, making it accessible to a wide range of readers, especially Lazar Shevchenko's great-granddaughter, Tamara Fedorenko.
